More Wildlife in Dockenfield

Leaving your doors open at night, a luxury of living in the countryside, is nevertheless slightly hazardous at this time of year as our neighbour Louise and her daughter Penny found out the other day.

They had been out looking for Perseids (shooting stars) on Saturday night and when they came back into their house they found a very large toad had hopped into their hall - they paniced and screamed with Penny standing on a chair and Louise locking herself in the dining room. They had to phone Janet to rescue the toad - it was so large she needed to use a tea tray to move it!

We had a similar reptilian encounter last night - see what was sitting on our back doorstep

A toad (probably a male judging by its size) and a "Common" Lizard (probably female).

The range of wildlife round here never fails to surprise me.
